Initial Position and requirements

The evaluation of crime statistics regarding abusive relationships in 2019 by the BKA (Federal Criminal Police Office) points out that, in 2019, 141.792 people became victims of domestic violence, of which 81% were female and 19% male. But these are just the recorded cases. The estimated numbers are much higher. The figures clearly demonstrate that more than 26.000 abused men are a number which should not be neglected anymore. In the whole of Germany, there are currently nine shelter apartments for 17 affected men and their children, if necessary. The BFKM (Federal Coordination Department for Domestic Violence against Men) estimates that up to five shelter apartments are needed per federal state, depending on population density and area structure.
